Getting Started with CaIoT’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) App
This walkthrough shows you how to set up and use CaIoT’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) App to add your own devices to the CaIoT cloud for testing purposes.
Disclaimer: CaIoT's BYOD Application is meant only for devices which have been factory reset. If a device is not factory reset before being added to the cloud, anyone who accesses that device will be able to see and interact with the device's data, including any private social media accounts, bank accounts, or any other extremely confidential information stored on the device. CaIoT bears no responsibility or liability for any damages caused the BYOD App as a result of adding a non-factory reset phone to the cloud. It is also a possibility that someone accessing the device may add a pin or password on the device to lock the owner of the device out. Do not add the device to the cloud if you do not have a way of resetting the password.
Click “Next” after selecting which additional icons you desire.
Wait for installation to complete.
Click “Finish” on the CaIoT Setup Wizard.
Step 3: Set up the BYOD App
Click on the CaBYOD app.
Login with the same credentials used to sign into the CaIoT portal.
Wait while the CaBYOD app sets itself up. This can take up to a few minutes.
Click “OK”.
Click “Request Activation Key”. The Activation Key will be sent to your email. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder.
Copy and paste your Activation Key into the field on the right where it says “Enter activation key”. Then click “Activate”.
Click “OK” on the popup message.
Step 4: Add devices
Go to the settings screen of the device you want to add to the CaIoT cloud. Note: Currently, only devices running the Android operating system can be added to the CaIoT Cloud using the BYOD App.
Tap “About Phone”. Depending on the device, this may be called something else.
Tap “Version” or “Build Number” 7 times in a row to activate Developer Options.
Go to “Additional Settings”. Depending on the device, this may be called something else.
Find “Developer Options” and tap on it.’
Activate “USB Debugging”.
Additional options which may improve your device’s performance and ease of testing within the CaIoT cloud include:
Do Not Use Lockscreen.
Keep Screen on While Charging.
OEM Unlock.
Disable animations.
Physically connect your device to your computer by plugging in the charging cable/USB cable.
Click on the serial number corresponding to the device that you want to add to the cloud. Note: You can only add one device at a time.
Click the “Type” of device which pertains to that device.
Select whether the device is an emulator or not.
Choose the access of the device. “Private” will make your device only available to your organization. “Ca Community” will make the device available for all CaIoT customers.
Click “Add selected device to CaIoT Cloud”. The device will then be added on the right side of the screen. To remove a device, double click its serial number on the right side.
Click “Let’s get started”, which is the second option at the bottom of the screen. The devices will then automatically be added to CaIoT’s cloud. You can see the devices begin to appear one by one in the Company Devices tab of the Device Labpage and you can begin assessing and testing with them from anywhere.
Other features that are included with the BYOD App are:
See device details in the top right of the app. Click on a different device serial number in order to see the information for that device.
You can change the settings of the device at any time by double clicking on its serial number.
Chat GPT integration: Add your User ID and your OPENAI_API_KEY to be able to use ChatGPT from the BYOD.
Repair/Reinstall ADB: For instances where the BYOD stops working due to problems with ADB.
Install Appium: This will automatically begin the process of installing Appium on your machine, which is necessary to be able to run automation tests on devices which are connected through that machine.
Add Appium to Startup apps: This makes it so that your Appium server starts up automatically when your computer or the BYOD App does.
Copy the invitation message: You can then send the invitation message, along with your invitation code, to your acquaintances and get credit for when they sign up with CaIoT.
Close the app by clicking the big red button at the bottom. Please only close the program if none of your devices are being tested on and save all your test session details.
There are three videos introducing CaIoT’s basic concepts.
